Audience Member Cited as the first Animated Feature film made in 1941 & despite some sketchy animation & only a rough print that survived it's ok to watch. A simple story of 3 villagers trying to obtain the Iron Fan from the princess to save their mountain land from a Fire Fiend. Very quirky animation but an interesting film nonetheless with little infusions of early Chinese culture in the dialogue of the 3 villagers. Worth a watch but is very dated unfortunately. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Its easy to appreciate the marvels mastered given the limits of the animated back then. Princess Iron Fan also stays loyal to the its roots (Journey to the West), with its accurate characterizations of Sun Wu Kong and Zhu Bajie. The plot unfortunately does waste time and lacks good pacing. Still, its a marvel to see Asian's first animated feature. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A very early feature-length animation, this was a Chinese film produced during WWII. Seen by some as a propaganda film (the ridiculous story is hard enough to follow, how anyone could read more into is beyond me), it drummed up support for resisting the Japanese occupation.
