Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com The film may sometimes deliver what you hope for, but it’s an otherwise sloppy outing for Adkins, who by now should expect more from himself and his audience. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 19, 2025 Full Review Alistair Lawrence Common Sense Media While leading actor Adkins can be relied on to commit to physically demanding roles, this wartime action thriller will fatigue its viewers almost as much as its star. Rated: 2/5 Oct 6, 2025 Full Review Daniel Gorman In Review Online Regardless of how one chooses to read it, Prisoner of War delivers what it says on the tin. Oct 2, 2025 Full Review Brandon Avery Just My Opinion Reviews An inspiring fight for survival. Scott Adkins is a martial arts legend, and never disappoints. Rated: 8.5/10 Sep 25, 2025 Full Review Harris Dang Their Own League Prisoner of War stands out as one of Adkins’ best due to its emotional sincerity in its formula narrative, powerful fight scenes and effective performances. Rated: 4/5 Sep 24, 2025 Full Review Josh Bell Crooked Marquee This World War II-set thriller is mostly a poor fit for Adkins' skills, and it loses momentum whenever he's not in the midst of a fight. Bill D Outstanding performances by Scott Adkins and Peter Shinkoda. It's now streaming on Fandango at Home, Prime Video, etc. and will be available on Blu-ray and DVD next month. Don't miss it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/05/25 Full Review Timothy E Scott Adkins is a great actor. This was a good movie even though it was kind of slow. It was still good. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/28/25 Full Review Yll K I just watched this movie and I think it might be one of the best movies ive ever watched. This movie had lots of real, emotional and touching scenes that were shown perfectly and thats why i think its the best. Its a must watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/26/25 Full Review Mattias P Was a great movie 5/5 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/26/25 Full Review Bryce D Just watch it last night with big group of friends and we had a blast! The excellent and violent choreography of the fight scenes, to the powerful performances by Scoot Adkins and Gary Cairns. With a breakdown by Filipino star Gabby Garcia, fueled by the direction of Louis Mandalor, make for one the best action films of the year!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/26/25 Full Review Brazillian J The film had me rolling my eyes before the first line of dialogue. A Spitfire or Hurricane dogfighting a Japanese Zero over the Philippines? Newsflash: the RAF never even fought there. If you’re going to rewrite history, at least make it vaguely believable. Then comes Scott Adkins. Yes, he’s a talented martial artist, but you’d never know it from these laughably staged scraps. Honestly, I’ve seen more convincing fights in a school nativity play. As for his acting — wooden doesn’t cover it. He’s got all the charisma of a garden fence, and that bizarre “I’m Batman” deep voice makes every line sound like a parody. The accents? Camp. The CGI? Poundland. The overall effect? Like watching Thunderbirds with a hangover. I actually found myself half-expecting Steven Seagal to shuffle on as the “bad, nasty Japanese camp commander” — which tells you everything about the film’s level of realism. I used to think Van Damme movies were the gold standard for corny action, but Adkins has somehow managed to sink even lower — he’s edging dangerously close to Seagal territory, and that’s not a compliment.
