Audience Member How this scored so much higher than 1986's ‘Overboard' or even it's re-make 30 years later is a bit strange since the start is similar and it is all based on the same idea. I could not follow it with the back and forth between different languages and the fast moving subtitles. Good food references, I guess. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Just looking at Jamie Camil was Good Enough for me. Eye Candyð??? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Not even my crush on Jaime Camil could really save this one, though that's not to say it was unenjoyable... If you're looking for a romantic comedy with an attractive male lead interested in a woman who at least cares about more than just romance you won't be disappointed at least. Unfortunately everybody but the male lead comes across as pretty flat and emotionless, Rachael could have been interesting but everybody around her is so one dimensional it takes away from her. Anyhow, I don't know, it's fairly run of the mill if not forgettable. If it had been more romantic or perhaps funnier, or you know what, just less cliche (re: single dad who can't raise a kid on his own without a 'woman's touch,' busy-business woman who can't see anything beyond business, gangster who is owed money, child who is totally content with whatever, hijinks from the bumbling friends, inevitable romance despite shady circumstances...etc), it might have actually shined. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Cute, funny, and Jaime Camil is very easy on the eyes! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice romantic comedy :) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Miz B W Standard rom-com fare, but I did appreciate the bilingual aspect. Randy Cordova Arizona Republic The movie boasts an understated sweetness, largely fueled by Camil's movie-star charms. He's the kind of performer who doesn't have to work hard to win over an audience; he is instantly likable. In a movie like this, that's money in the bank. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 7, 2013 Full Review Louis Black Austin Chronicle Ultimately, the film is absolutely charming if a bit too predictable and glued more to sit-com narrative strategies and aesthetics than is healthy. Still, Pulling Strings works on a number of levels. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 4, 2013 Full Review Joe Leydon Variety This entertaining crossover vehicle for Mexican star Jaime Camil sets a familiar love story to a mariachi beat. Oct 4, 2013 Full Review Tracy Moore Common Sense Media Sweet subtitled romcom hinges on night of drinking. Rated: 3/5 Jun 17, 2014 Full Review Abby Garnett Paste Magazine Pulling Strings isn't particularly sharp as either a comedy or a romance. Rated: 6/10 Oct 17, 2013 Full Review Paul Chambers Movie Chambers A bilingual romantic comedy hopes to bridge the ties with a crossover audience, but has only the charm of the leading man going for it.
