Critics Consensus

Brutal and breathless, Quantum Of Solace delivers tender emotions along with frenetic action, but coming on the heels of Casino Royale, it's still a bit of a disappointment.

Ryan H Craig is solid as ever as 007. But the film is let down by a subpar story. Thankfully, it’s saved, somewhat, by the shorter runtime. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/04/25 Full Review Audience Member It was little good movie the second movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/27/25 Full Review Liam D Even though Marc Forster (Everything Put Together, Stranger Than Fiction) direction is a bit too artsy, the editing is a little bit choppy and you can tell that the writer’s strike completely messed up the script at times but it’s a solid thriller that comes no where near Casino Royale but isn’t as bad as everyone says it is Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/24/25 Full Review Kevin P A fairly entertaining movie that feels more like a quiet epilogue to Casino Royale than a proper Bond Movie thanks to the rushed production hell from the 2008 Writers Strike. The movie picks up where the last one left off with interrogating Mr. White to find out more about the organization that took away Vesper. Despite the writers strike hurdle, the largest problem with the movie is the direction. The action scenes are incredibly incoherent and frantic. They're too fast paced with extremely choppy editing that cuts to a new shot every second. All while the exposition scenes feel boring without much direction or momentum. Bond getting random civilians killed in the crossfire of his espionage pursuits is highlighted, but never narratively explored or challenged. However, there is a brief, but good critique from M on how James Bond treats the women around him as disposable deconstruction that get killed in the crossfire of his missions. The villains are forgettable. But I do like their politically relevant motivations as they play puppetry with developing nations for their natural resources. Daniel Craig is still Bond, hut he feels more emotionless and boring this time. There also feels like less development and agency for the main bond girl, who shares barely any chemistry with James Bond. However, she gets better in the last half hour. She has a nice bonding moment with James Bond in the ravine cave, with a nice reveal about monopolizing one Bolivian freshwater supply. I like that Bond helps the Bond girl with her revenge (unlike most films where the woman is shamed for revenge unlike their male counterparts). I like that she gets touched complete her revenge and still get comforted when the fire triggers her PTSD. And that Bond gets a little bit of closure and empathy for Vesper by the end. The movie is a decent viewing experience, but it's comparatively a big letdown compared to Casino Royale and Skyfall. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/25/25 Full Review Daniel C. M It has the feels of a generic action thriller, not only due the lack of gadgets, but the nauseating shaky cam doens't help things either. Despite this, Quantum of Solace still features a interesting, and, quite frankly, very good political thriller plot with a welcomed shorter runtime of only 1h40. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/25/25 Full Review tim s While not as emotionally gripping as Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace offers an abundance of frantic action in a condensed runtime. Unfortunately, the action scenes rely too heavily on quick cuts. Moreover, the film's villain is underwhelming and nonthreatening. However, Daniel Craig's performance remains gritty and unapologetic, showcasing his strengths as Bond. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/29/25 Full Review Read all reviews
