Various lives intersect in Los Angeles. Hooker Lolita (Hilary Swank) picks up Angel (Daryl Mitchell), an abusive gangster who knocks her out after their transaction. When a drug deal goes wrong, a man flees the city with waitress Julie (Meta Golding), who escapes just before the thug's enemies catch up with him. At a new job, Julie starts dating Richard (Chad Lowe), a shady lawyer also pursuing an affair with Kathy (Natasha Gregson Wagner), who has an open relationship with her husband.
