Critics Consensus

Fast-paced and stunningly animated, Ratatouille adds another delightfully entertaining entry -- and a rather unlikely hero -- to the Pixar canon.

Anupama Chopra Film Companion This is a film about a rat who becomes a chef in Paris. But it's so much more than that. It's about what a great artist can be, where a great artist can come from, it's about food and how to savour it. May 18, 2020 Full Review David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) It's a great programme for all the family. Rated: 4/5 Jul 29, 2015 Full Review Ryan Gilbey New Statesman Ratatouille is a wonderful, wistful comedy, and a sparkling return to form for the computer animation studio Pixar after last year's lacklustre Cars. Aug 24, 2014 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Ratatouille puts the "anyone can cook" motto to the test and while it's an absurd premise, this film is absolutely beautiful in every way. Rated: 4.5/5 Jun 29, 2022 Full Review Cory Woodroof 615 Film It doesn’t have a flaw; it’s perfect storytelling and its emotional payoff is a landmark. Jun 15, 2022 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Despite the unexplained language barriers or farfetched plot, this delightfully delicious foray into the unimaginable never becomes preachy or immature. Gabe L While Ratatouille at first glance appears to be a silly children’s movie about cooking, when you dive deeper you will pick up on themes that present deeper meaning. This movie allows the audience to feel a sense of hope that no matter how unlikely their circumstances may be, if they have the heart and are brave enough they can be anything. Ratatouille also comes with beautiful animation that leaves the audience breathless when paired with classic French song “Le Festin”. Ratatouille is without a doubt my favorite Pixar and animated movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/01/25 Full Review Chew C In many ways the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgement. But, the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things... the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something... and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last night I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from an singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking, is a gross understatement-- they have rocked me to my core. In the past I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau’s famous motto: “Anyone Can Cook”. But I realize only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau’s, who is, in this critic’s opinion, nothing less than the finest Chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau’s soon, hungry for more. Surprise me...! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/24/25 Full Review Jonathan O A delicious funny Disney and Pixar animated film ever with really outstanding texture of character and building designs and solid sound design. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review Alfred Junior T A nice movie which I would recommend because it emphasizes friendship more Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review Kinleynamgay T This movie became my most favorite. This movie inspired me to create my own ideas.I would really appreciate if there is a sequel to the movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/19/25 Full Review alan g Well written ,visually excellent and the voice actors are great but being associated with the restaurant business for 50+ years and being a health inspector I can't really enjoy a movie about rats in a kitchen.
