Linda Barnard Toronto Star Despite being a rather thin, by-the-books documentary that abruptly changes course at the halfway mark, Red Obsession tells a fascinating financial tale about the rise of "wine fever" in China. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 26, 2013 Full Review Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times "Red Obsession" gains interest as it delineates how the production and sale of first-growth Bordeaux has become the biggest of businesses and how the Chinese may or may not fit into the picture. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 12, 2013 Full Review Sheila O'Malley RogerEbert.com A film about obsession, about wine-mania, about people who live, breathe, eat, think, drink wine. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 6, 2013 Full Review Morgan Rojas Cinemacy Red Obsession captures the acute attention to detail any good documentary needs; high-definition shots of laborers harvesting the vineyards and actually turning the freshly picked grapes into a bottle of Bordeaux are fascinating processes to watch. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Christopher Campbell Nonfics A lot of worthless talk about the greatness of Bordeaux takes too much away from the very few fascinating parts of the story. Rated: 2/5 May 30, 2014 Full Review Kam Williams Baret News Wine documentary examines China's consumption's contribution to runaway prices. Rated: 3.5/4 Jan 26, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Wine???? who cares? Corporate types moaning about their prices. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Audience Member A relief that this was a really well made and concise film. More than happy to hear from a good number of wine makers and merchants giving varying views. It was not dominated by the Chinese economic explosion but always a bit depressing to see people who come into a lot of money not having a clue what to buy with it but getting more of a kick spending it and using it as a status symbol. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member So fascinating! If you're a wino like us, you NEED to see this film! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Really interesting doc. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Very well done and full of important wine history, Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Rampant consumerism as the order of the day in China.
