Maria O Best football movie I've seen. Sad but also lovely in the relationship of the two mane characters. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/24 Full Review Connor S Majorly flawed, definition of "Hollywood" storyline, and yet still compelling. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review William Best movie EVER!! Proof the "Critics" are clueless because this film is 100%!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/04/24 Full Review Fang S The movie was fanastic as it had elements that were both thrilling and empowring as the film challenges you to become a better human being. 10/10. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/21/23 Full Review Josh D The movie is close. So close to achieving sports movie perfection. It's perfectly acted, especially the youth football players who balance all their deep character moments with the laugh-out-loud physical comedy, but it suffers from an ultimately flawless lead character. Coach Boone is well acted, as all Denzel Washington characters are, but he is never wrong, and it throws off the dynamic between the two coaches. Coach Yost spends the entire movie being proved wrong, and he never once has a decent perspective to share. It would've been far more interesting to see the coaches have their conflicting styles as they do, but instead of Coach Boone being correct while Coach Yost is always wrong, show that there are merits to both of their styles and they have to come together to win. Roger Clarke Independent (UK) This is certainly full of worthy thoughts and intentions; but, in the end, Americans just don't seem to understand that American football seems as bizarre to most of the world as Eton Fives. Rated: 2/5 Mar 26, 2024 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Inspiring football drama brings history to life. Rated: 4/5 Dec 28, 2010 Full Review Richard Schickel TIME Magazine Maybe it's all true. But one is always a little discomfited when life, or a movie, imitates weary melodramatic patterns this slavishly. Jul 31, 2008 Full Review Philip French Observer (UK) Every lad is a stereotype, every sporting cliché is trundled out. Mar 25, 2024 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) It’s one of Washington’s better performances, one that saw him embody the spirit of Boone’s mission with the kind of show-stopping gravitas that’s made the actor such a force. Sep 6, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies The beating heart of the story is still powerful and pertinent which makes this film not only highly watchable entertainment but a thought-provoking (and hopefully in some ways enlightening) crowdpleaser.
