The impressive cast cannot rescue Rendition, which explores complex issues in woefully simplified terms.

But Rendition, in the end, is a Lifetime movie with pretensions toward being a political thriller. (They could even call it YOU HAVE MY HUSBAND! since Witherspoon shrieks that at Streep in a ludicrous scene.) Go to Full Review

I don't fault Rendition for its liberal politics. I fault it for hammering home those politics in such pounding, slanted fashion. Go to Full Review

If these new, allegedly topical movies are to make us feel anything -- to move us toward any action or even just toward any fresh realization -- they need to at least seem alive on the screen, instead of just courting our polite, measured applause. Go to Full Review

Giorgio G Sep 13 My gosh, I had seen this movie nearly 20 years ago and found it profound and somehow scary at the same time. Not scary as in a horror movie, but because of its possible social and political implications. And now, fast-forwarded to 2025, the world under Trump is witnessing exactly the movie's fictional situation in real time, and thousands of time a day, with innocent people being capture, dragged into an obscure hole, only to then actually disappear into oblivion. What seemed an extreme and improbable situation back then is a daily routine to all those thousands of ICE agents in the US and their targets, immigrants, illegal or not, and pretty much anybody who speaks up against Trump. If you were afraid that George Orwell's 1984 could someday become a reality, and that this movie "Rendition" is far too absurd to become true, then you only need to look at the news nowadays and realize that the horror images of the past have unfolded a million times worse. 9/10 points! Exposes secret agents being a law unto themselves when dealing with people presumed to be terrorists. Justice eventually served through the bravery of one who would make a stand.
