DanTheMan 2 Unironically probably a better Exorcist sequel than any of the Exorcist sequels sans III. Repossessed isn't a comedy classic by any means, referencing anything and everything it can in the name of parody but the slapstick and endless sight gags, strong performances from Linda Blair and Leslie Nielsen and an overly catchy main title song raise it from being a total whitewash. The problem with the film, while it is watchable, the directing is rather mundane, the script doesn't always land with the odd unsuccessful gag making you cringe rather than laugh. There's certainly effort put into Repossessed, more than I can say about most of the official Exorcist sequels, if not for curiosity's sake, it's worth a look at least once. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/11/24 Full Review David W I loved Leslie Neilsen as both a straight dramatic actor and latterly the king of deadpan comedy. This though was not his finest hour and feels forced and dare I say a little lazy. It's the script rather than Nielsen which is at fault though and he manfully tries to save the sinking ship but sadly, largely fails. It's not a total train wreck but given the premise and such a wonderful lead actor, it really should have been better. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/23/24 Full Review Wayne K Ever since Airplane! in 1980, Leslie Nielsen has been one of the highest regarded spoof actors of his or indeed any other generation, thanks to his blend of charisma and deadpan acting. But this didn't always produce exceptional results, and such is the case with Repossessed. While not a complete failure, so much of the comedy feels forced and even lazy. There's pretty much nothing here that Nielsen hasn't done better in other films. Coming out a whole 17 years after the movie it's spoofing, The Exorcist, it's nice to see Linda Blair lampooning the role that brought her worldwide attention and, from all accounts, decades of misery, but it's mostly just a predictable collection of jokes about green vomit, spinning heads and speaking in a croaky voice. I enjoy the shots it fired at televangelists and their desperation for any kind of publicity, and money of course, but it's so directionless and unfocussed, tossing in references to whatever was popular at the time. The exorcism in the TV studio segment seems to go on forever and rarely raises more than a giggle. It's almost impossible to dislike Nielsen, since he's got charm to spare, but here's he's given nothing to do beside recycle shtick that's he done better before and since. An easy enough viewing experience, but one that won't stick in your mind. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/15/23 Full Review Steve D With this cast it should have generated some laughs. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review jacob s Absolutely hysterical. My go to Halloween film. I laugh so hard every time. Top notch Leslie Neilson. And that ending? An absolute riot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Can't complain, Linda Blair is in this! There was some funny moments as the film was a clever and funny spoof of an already weird and strange genre. I loved it, give it a go Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
