Adam S Another entry by Alexandre Arcady about the experience of the Pieds-Noirs. Another meditation on Algeria and France after the war of independence, and the troubled history of the country in the aftermath. The movie is set in two eras, 1962 and 1994. A lot of water has passed under the bridge. The protagonist - French journalist Pierre Nivel (Antoine de Caunes) - left Algeria after the French renounced their claim to it, and enters the country once again during the midst of a civil war. The tale of Algeria dovetails with that of the protagonist. His story runs parallel to the country he grew-up in. The movie has us ask questions about what Pierre is looking for. Is he searching for his former flame, or is he trying to recapture something else lost to time? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/07/25 Full Review Read all reviews
