Luis M. D This is a slow, dark, psychological thriller. And I like slow, dark, psychological thrillers. Yet this movie seemed to me ultimately boring. What could have been wrong? It's difficult to give a reason since I'm by no means an expert. But I think one possible explanation would be the absence of a plot that let us know what kind of person Ellie, the protagonist, really is. Throughout the film she interacts only with two people: her mother, whom she hasn't seen for a while (and with whom she has just reconnected) and a man who does some manual jobs for the family. There is no real plot or story that shows Ellie's true character. Nor is there a situation that creates a real sense of danger or urgency. In the film, tension is built basically through Ellie's own memories—either in the form of flashbacks or as ghostly apparitions in the present. Most of the time we do not know whether she is really a good or bad person. A normal film should give us some indications – through certain situations or dialogues – of what her true character is, so that we can establish an emotional connection with her. That's not happening here, unfortunately. This would perhaps be the main reason why, despite having good visual effects and good performances, Reunion is ultimately boring and uninteresting. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/26/23 Full Review Ric M Seeing the 'critic' ratings of 92% against 'them' rating of 37%, I should have realised this was yet another example of parochial bias from the 'pros'; mia culpa for going the whole distance: Acting was ok, although there couldn't have been much of a script to pit it against; camera work was creepy enough, although it never really went anywhere; the ending was a dumb cop out and getting there was mind numbingly slow and boring. All that said, there were some really clever bits in spots, but it was a shame they were rare. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/10/23 Full Review james g I liked the way the story unfolded. Good performances. Ultimately though I was confused. And only in an extra did we get a full exterior shot of the house, and the house is an important character. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review mary beth c Scenes confusing and dark. Ending terrible. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The acting of the two actors is overwhelming. A tense atmosphere tightens the heart all the time. The combination of occult and thriller. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member I felt that time had passed by when I saw Julia Omond after a long time. But I was pleased to see her performance that was still alive. The movie tells the secret of a family history, but it shows delicacy and sophistication in expressing it. It's a very interesting and meaningful piece of work.
