Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Mostel and Wilder do what they can with the material but Rhinoceros probably works better as a stage play. Rated: 2.5/5 Feb 2, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Harry N Total dreck. Preposterous movie based on a play. Neurotic Gene Wilder retreats to his apartment when he thinks his neighbors and friends are turning into rhinos. They act like rhinos but still keep human form. We are led to believe the metamorphosis is real. No point at all. One of the worst movies I have seen. Kafka's short story Metamorphosis makes more sense and is more entertaining. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Pablo G Oh my goodness, this was poor. Take the cast of ‘the producers', keep the cringe but remove the wit… it feels as though they filmed the rehearsals and/or kept every first take. There's so little to take from this, especially given that we know what this Mostel and Wilder are capable of. Evidence that once they had the cast in place there could not have been ANY meaningful oversight of the production. It feels like a 7min sketch stretched out into a feature. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I get it. This movie is about humankind giving into its savage nature and the inevitable collapse of civilization. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member It's not that the Ionesco play can't work as a movie. Its that everyone involved in this adaptation makes the fatal mistake of assuming that it is just sort of vaguely anti-conformist and zany which undercuts the specific historical references regarding the spread of Fascism and the broader satire. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member It's almost like an episode of the Twilight Zone. Gene Wilder's character is a struggling alcoholic with an indomitable spirit. The final scene was kinda wacky but that's likely due to the onset of the rhinoceros setting in. It's never really explained what is happening. It could be symbolic for social norms or it could be referring to communism lol who knows Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing film about what we consider normal-abnormal, beautiful-ugly and what we choose to be. Masterly intepreted and directed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
