Harrison R Great actor, very smart, very relevant. Not very funny. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/09/24 Full Review Audience Member Comedy legend Richard Pryor was a master of act-outs, his animated delivery elevating this 1979 special to a largely hilarious, even transfixing ride. That's not to say that the material itself isn't funny, but it's his performance, oozing energy and swagger, that makes this most memorable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review William L With little exaggeration, Pryor flipped the world of black artists in mainstream entertainment on its head, delivering widely watched performances that actually questioned and lampooned race relations and a host of other then-touchy subjects through his distinctive brand of bawdy comedy that would have prevented any comic from taking the stage just a few years before. Here, he's at his prime, and Live in Concert is a touchstone in standup and pop culture history that is well worth 78 minutes of your time. One of the best recordings of a man responsible not only for a revolution in comedy, but in entertainment as a whole, creating a style that still forms the basis for television comedians today, but one that few have mastered to the degree that Pryor had. (4.5/5) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/21 Full Review Audience Member No comic has ever bridged America's racial divide as Richard Prior did in this brilliant performance. Playing to a mixed audience, Prior illustrates the absurdity of racial hate by recounting his real-life experiences with both white and black people. All members of the audience laughed equally hard at their own side's foolish conduct. Nobody has conducted his life more recklessly than Prior, and his honest accounting of his errors in life brought everyone in that room together, finally equal as participants in the victories and humiliations of the human condition. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review russell h He's outstanding. It would be five stars if he came around a little later. I would have related more. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Pryor was a king but he sure was one sweaty motherfucker during this stand-up.
