Steve D A road not worth taking. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/24 Full Review Audience Member Looks like even in Bing Crosby's day, some stars were required to appear in their own version of Cool as Ice. I'm not surprised to learn that this vehicle was cobbled together with scenes from early Crosby comedies, as the editing is terrible and there's no flow from one scene to the next. In those short films, the director seemed determined to try to turn Crosby into a singing Buster Keaton, forcing him to perform hackneyed slapstick. (He's no Keaton, but it's remarkable that he retained his dignity after some of those things). This resulting Frankenstein effort attempts to give a story of Crosby's rise to stardom. It's an embarrassing trainwreck with no story whatsoever, despite copious narration by a guy squirming in his chair - seriously, he looks like a hostage. It's also insulting that it was called a 'Road' movie; it's nothing of the sort and Bob Hope's not in it. It's a somewhat entertaining failure, though. Watch it for the final scene, in which narration and stock footage of all kinds are used to build Crosby up into a godlike figure; it's epic. Also, take a shot each time you get a close-up of a girl (white or Indian) fawning and giggling while Crosby sings. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't know who thought that making up a biography for Crosby through use of footage from his early films was a better idea than creating an actual biography of Crosby's life. It is interesting to get to see some of his old movies though, but other than that it's silly. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
