Suprateek A After waiting for so long I finally watched Roja with high expectations and here are my thoughts. This film for me weirdly took a bit longer than usual Mani Ratnam films to get into the film, yet it delivers. I'm currently speechless with what I had just witnessed. I was scared I wouldn't like it but it grew on me so much. The staging and framing and the locations were a spectacle to marvel at. Some of the shots have aged like fine wine to say the least. The visual poetry is just so amazing and I love it. The way the Kashmir conflict was juxtaposed with a beautiful love story won me over. It was just simply beautiful. The character arcs don't come off as preachy and are extremely organic. This film has aged really well. This film will stand out as a great example for juxtaposition in Indian cinema. Coming to the performances everyone did a great job although the film belongs to Madhubala in her titular role as Roja. She has such an expressive face which I love, she was able to showcase feelings of resentment and despair so well with just her eyes and eyebrows. Truly a great actress. Many images of her performance are still stuck in my head and I hope they don't leave. This one is probably my favourite out of the entire terrorism trilogy of Mani Ratnam. To conclude the only thing I have to say is Mani Ratnam is the goat. Still today the songs was likely punched to all heart:):) Rahman is great:) Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member i wanted to watch it because i wanted to see all of mani ratnam's famous films. I don't think i was really into it because the film was shot in the early 90s and it didn't really grab me like Bombay or Dil Se did. Plus, the terrorists were extremely nice which is so stupid! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Mani Ratnmas first attempt to cater hindi audience goes very well with his excellent masterpiece "Roja". Rahmans music is rope in this movie on which whole story walks with a very balanced position. Pankaj Kapoor has done great work. Madhu is just OK. Locations are damn' good in this movie especially "yeh haseen wadiyaan...." Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
