Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Let's say Roller Boogie is no better and no worse than the beach blanket/bikini/bingo/bongo movies, and from there you're going to have to take it by yourself. Dave S Set in Venice Beach, wealthy flutist Terry (Linda Blair) falls for Bobby (Jim Bray, in his first and, mercifully, last role), a roller skater from the wrong side of the tracks. Together, they are forced to save the local roller rink from being appropriated by crooked developers. Roller Boogie is like some sort of charmless cross between the Andy Hardy movies of the ‘40s and the beach movies of the ‘60s, a failed attempt to cash in on the disco craze of the late ‘70s. If you enjoy watching people endlessly dancing to bad music while on roller skates, this might be right up your alley. However, if you have issues with threadbare plots, bad acting, embarrassing dialogue and a wide range of other problems, you’re going to absolutely hate Roller Boogie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review Steve D Dated product of its time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review Brett Mary D If you like Roller Disco, this movie is for you! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/10/23 Full Review ashley h Roller Boogie is an okay film. It is about skaters who band together to keep their roller-disco open. Linda Blair and Jim Bray give decent performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Mark L. Lester did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A corny and predictable movie from beginning to end. Serviceable music that makes me wanna boogie just doesn't cut it. Especially with bad writing from Barry Schneider and Irwin Yablans who are trying to make a roller skating disco version of Romeo and Juliet. A trend plus a famous work of art that has been done numerous times? Sounds a little cliché and tiresome in my opinion. Also, the kids in the movie are trying to tell the parents how bad the bad guys are to keep the roller skating building and the kids prove they are right? Once again...cliché. Not only is the writing bad but the acting too. Linda Blair, Jim Bray, Kimberly Beck, and Beverly Garland. All four of them gave poor acting performances. Roller Boogie is the type of film that Linda Blair should never be forgiven for even though she did Exorcist II: The Heretic. If you ever come across this movie I can give you two choices: You can enjoy this cheesy movie or put on some roller skates (I know I will) and boogie on out! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member When I worked at a small walk down video store (weren't they all located in basements? RIP), this was on my staff recommends shelf for months. I can't remember one other film I had on that shelf, but this was my favorite. Rollerskating, the 70s, Linda Blair, and a great corny plot make it a must-see time capsule. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
