Despite their strong friendship, their personal and professional lives are still lacking. When they hear of their upcoming high school reunion, they take it as an opportunity to show their classmates how much they've changed -- first by trying to reform themselves, then by creating a lie that eventually spins out of control.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Romy and Michele's High School Reunion has an admittedly slight premise, but it's elevated by ample heart, an infectiously playful spirit, and the buoyant chemistry of Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino.

Rachel Vorona Cote Bitch Media Enjoying Romy and Michele's High School Reunion requires several intersectional caveats - but unfortunately, we could say the same for most films being made today. What the film does offer, albeit hesitatingly, is a love story between two women. Mar 1, 2021 Full Review Ryan Gilbey Independent (UK) Call it Bill and Ted with attitude, or a toothless Clueless: either way, the film uses up its best lines in the first 40 minutes, and only comes to life whenever the splendidly grouchy Janeane Garofalo is on screen. Dec 15, 2018 Full Review Carol Buckland CNN.com If you're in the mood for fluffy fun, it is likely to make you laugh. The flick holds special charms for moviegoers who, like me, were not members of their high school "in" crowd. Jan 5, 2018 Full Review Brian Rowe InSession Film Along with the fantastic screenplay by Robin Schiff, Mirkin’s direction, and the extraordinary cast, the music plays a huge part in my love for this film. May 3, 2023 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …a funny, likable film with strong female characters…Sorvino and Kudrow have great comic timing, just enough pathos, and two characters who should have spawned a franchise for sure... Rated: 4/5 Mar 16, 2023 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Robin Schiff’s screenplay is filled with memorable lines, and Sorvino and Kudrow are an irresistible team. John A Most of the characters are pretty enjoyable and the story becomes pretty predictable but it all makes for a decent enough ride in the field of "chick-flicks" Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/24 Full Review Matt L I love everything about this cult classic that should have spawned a few sequels by now. However, I don't think it's too late to have another reunion! This movie has great bits, good music, an iconic dance sequence, a hilarious ending and has heart to boot! It's one of my favorites of all time and will always be beloved! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Emily P I didn’t see this movie until maybe two months ago but I liked it more than I thought I would. I mean if anything gets a 75% or higher on here it has to be good. Lisa and Mira were perfect for their parts of Romy and Michele. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Jeff M This movie is pure joy and one of only a small handful of films that I wish had a sequel. It doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is - a silly, goofy good time. And God knows we need that now more than ever. The film is populated with supporting performances from many familiar faces, each one better than the last. And special mention must be given to Garofalo who is absolutely outstanding and provides many of the movie's biggest laughs. And, yes, that is Justin Theroux in a very early role as the mysterious cowboy who becomes her nemesis throughout high school. But the success of this motion picture land squarely on the shoulders of Sorvino and Kudrow, and it's impossible to imagine any one else in either of their roles. Kudrow, in particular, is comic dynamite. Although I've never seen an episode of FRIENDS, I've always been drawn to her as an actress and performer, and her timing is impeccable. She and Oscar winner Sorvino create one of my favorite comic dream teams. It's not a movie during which I necessarily laugh out loud a lot, but I smile throughout, and my spirits are lifted for the scant 92 minutes it exists. And the Mary vs. Rhoda debate will forever be up in the air for me. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/24 Full Review D G I miss the days when movies were made to entertain the audience. Mission accomplished. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Donny L Definitely a cult classic, but never always hit. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
