What to Know

Critics Consensus

A disarmingly sweet tonal gearshift for director Derek Cianfrance, Roofman is shaggy as a narrative but expertly tailored to Channing Tatum's strengths as an eminently likable leading man.

It’s best for the quiet scenes between the leads, in which Dunst knows exactly what to do and shows her co-star the way. Go to Full Review

It's nice to see Cianfrance working in a less melodramatic key, with conflict at a low simmer, and he doesn’t cop out on the reality of the situation. Go to Full Review

A warm and engaging crime dramedy uplifted by Tatum and Dunst’s chemistry, Roofman charms but never digs deep enough. Cianfrance trades his usual raw edge for a gentler touch, resulting in an appealing yet surprisingly subdued film. Go to Full Review

The writers seem more interested in telling a sanitary good guy tale than considering Lancaster’s crimes...It leaves you with the feeling that there is a much better version of this gonzo true story still waiting to be told. Go to Full Review

I had no idea that the movie was indeed based on a true story until the end credits and everyone stayed through the bonus credits. So well done, the chemistry between everyone was palpable.
