Critics Consensus

A disarmingly sweet tonal gearshift for director Derek Cianfrance, Roofman is shaggy as a narrative but expertly tailored to Channing Tatum's strengths as an eminently likable leading man.

Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Cianfrance’s touch eventually helps shift the perspective away from the easy comedy of Manchester’s life, and towards a more subtle – and quite moving – portrait of a man desperate for a second shot at normality... Rated: 4/5 Oct 24, 2025 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Channing Tatum is a goofy delight in this engaging if overlong caper. Oct 20, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) It really helps that Kirsten Dunst's character is completely believable. Oct 17, 2025 Full Review Austin Burke Austin Burke/Flick Fan Nation Roofman delivers a riveting story that captivates with its unique approach and multifaceted appeal, featuring everything audiences are looking for. The crime element is intense, while Channing Tatum’s heartfelt performance adds a level of warmth. Rated: 8/10 Oct 24, 2025 Full Review Prabhjot Bains RANGE Magazine Despite some heavy-handed narration and a missed opportunity to probe the veteran psyche post-9/11, Roofman remains a funny, heartfelt exercise in authenticity—one that, like its loveable thief, steals your heart before you notice. Oct 24, 2025 Full Review Valerie Kalfrin AWFJ.org hypes its true-story roots but might have worked better as a documentary. ... the film leans on Tatum’s considerable charm instead of fleshing out the motivations and flaws of its main character.
