Believing that he has been swindled, Princeton grad student Richie (Justin Timberlake) goes to Costa Rica to confront online-gambling tycoon Ivan Block (Ben Affleck). Block's promises of immense wealth and power have a seductive effect on Richie, until he learns the shocking truth about his new mentor. Un film che vuole essere troppe cose, e finisce per non fare nulla bene; per diventare un ibrido che mischia numerosi elementi senza mai affrontarne uno con impegno. Si parla di poker, di gioco d'azzardo, di frode e di corruzione; si affrontano posizioni lavorative sconosciute senza entrare nel dettaglio e pure la lovestory è appena abbozzata e chiaramente forzata per rientrare nei pochi minuti a disposizione. Condiamo il tutto con le scadenti interpretazioni di Justin Timberlake e di Gemma Arterton e lo spreco è condito.
