Audience Member Thought it was a well told story about one woman's fight to fix what she veiwed as broken within our system. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member One woman's determination to not give up for a more just system in support of women seeking asylum in America. It Made me cry to think of the struggles of women around the world under the tyranny of political and ideological misogyny. Not overly schmaltzy but very moving all the same. Real feel good ending film that made you want to be counted when it comes to a more just society. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member From an eleven year old's perspective, I found that it was quite a boring storyline. They could have shown more about Judy and her son's life before they moved to California. I would also like to have seen more of Asefa Ashwari's life before she fled to America. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member SAINT JUDY is an inspirational true story but its execution is only slightly better than average. It seems more like a made-for-TV movie than one for the cinema. The story is definitely an important one and shows how the law can discriminate against women just because they are women. It's worth a look to be informed and reminded that women still, in the 21st century, are not considered equal to men even in Western countries where discrimination is so entrenched that we are often unaware of it. Judy Wood is a hero in bringing to light the shocking discrimination against women seeking asylum in the US. Michelle Monaghan (Mission Impossible: Fallout), who plays Judy Wood, holds the film together and keeps the viewer engaged with the story. Overall, SAINT JUDY is a bit cliched at times, but it brings to our awareness an important moment in legal and social history. And it makes clear the sacrifice that ordinary people make to right injustices. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review steve d Powerful true story, well told and well acted. It's characters are engaging and its story important. Judy is the kind of movie I love to see. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought it was well researched well written and told a great true life story. We could all learn from this true story. What people go through as they are rapped and blamed as if they were the bad because they stood up to the evil doers. The young teacher stood up to what she believed in...herself. Nell Minow AWFJ.org This film is itself an important piece of advocacy for women everywhere, and for empathy, too. Oct 26, 2021 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews Despite the faint whiff of sanctimoniousness that occasionally emanates from this well-meaning motion picture, Saint Judy generally holds its own as a solid courtroom drama. Rated: 3/4 Mar 2, 2019 Full Review Monica Castillo TheWrap Is at its strongest when focusing on the experiences of Judy's clients, and watching the emotional weight on their shoulders slide off as they open up to her. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Sandie Angulo Chen AWFJ.org In today's divisive political climate, a movie like Saint Judy is a reminder to see undocumented immigrants as fellow human beings with complicated backstories. Oct 26, 2021 Full Review Cate Marquis AWFJ.org Director Sean Hanish serves up a fine biopic of inspiring immigration attorney Judy Wood, whose determined and resourceful service to immigrants, often for little or no pay, has earned her the nickname Saint Judy. Oct 26, 2021 Full Review Jennifer Merin AWFJ.org Starring Michelle Monaghan in the title role, with superb support from an ensemble cast that includes Leem Lubany, Alfre Woodard, Alfred Molina and Common, the film is timely, indeed. Saint Judy is a film that fans the flames of feminist activism. Oct 26, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
