Critics Consensus

Saw III does little beyond repeating its predecessor's tropes on a gorier level.

Jordan Crucchiola New York Magazine/Vulture The third movie doesn't go over the edge, but it does start to feel like John is setting his subjects up to fail, and the game shouldn't be rigged quite so hard if he really wants people to walk the path of redemption. Oct 27, 2017 Full Review Tim Grierson Screen International Staying mostly faithful to the successful blueprint of its two earlier installments, Saw III is an adequate sequel that works well enough on its own terms. Jul 23, 2008 Full Review Brian Tallerico UGO One of the most sadistic, brutal, grisly films of the current splatter-porn genre. Mar 24, 2007 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review How can Jigsaw possibly think he or his undertaking has achieved anything with such a low success rate? He would do better by looking at the numbers, realizing he's doing more harm than good, and trying a new approach. I wish these films would do the same Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 11, 2023 Full Review Shaun Munro Flickering Myth Saw III neatly concludes the original trilogy of films while providing an off-ramp for the ridiculous glut of sequels to follow. Rated: 3.5/5 May 20, 2021 Full Review Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News I don't have a problem with uncomfortable violence if it comes in a film that's at least remotely entertaining, which this movie is not. This installment is lazy, coasting on everything that made the first two films so popular. Nov 20, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This film is a great conclusion to the trilogy but is weaker than its predecessors. There is practically no police plot in the film and few traps, although very interesting, especially the final trap. Great characters and, like the previous Saw II, there is a great presence of John Kramer in the film. Amanda receives great prominence which is a key point and the final twist is somewhat predictable but is up to par. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/25 Full Review Guilherme M Not so interesting as the past two movies, really a forgettable sequence. It's just a gorier saw movie, really nothing much to it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/10/25 Full Review Shaun R One of the best in the franchise. Could have and probably should have ended here. “My personal favourite.” Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/03/25 Full Review Lain ☆ so sigma PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK #1 JEFF DEFENDER Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Josh A Solid movie. It's not as good as Saw I & II, but it is still a pretty good film. While killing off John Kramer is something I'm sure will have repercussions in the future, it worked here. Anyways, onto the movie! It's not perfect, there's flaws. It's like the Return of the Jedi of Saw films: it's not on the same level as the other 2, but it's still part of the trilogy. Besides, it's still a great film. It'd be a great finale if it wasn't for the ending scene having a cliffhanger. But I'll come to terms with that eventually. Also this finished off Amanda's arc, essentially. She became too arrogant and died. So yea, this is decent but the worst of the trilogy. My favourite trap in this movie was the Rack. It's terrifying to imagine going through: your arms slowly twisting one by one and then the dread of certain death as your head begins to twist. It's a great concept. Overall, solid movie. Next up, Saw IV! Which is apparently set at the same time as Saw III. Wonder how that'll work. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/03/25 Full Review Read all reviews
