Bosley Crowther New York Times As theatrical exhibitionism, it is gaudy, sprawling and full of sound. But as an attempt at a considerable motion picture it has to be classified as bunk. Rated: 2/5 Oct 26, 2010 Full Review Variety Staff Variety The picture -- with or without the smells -- is a fun picture, expertly directed by Jack Cardiff. Oct 26, 2010 Full Review P.S. Harrison Harrison's Reports The numerous smells, including those of perfume, coffee, tobacco, and oranges... although a bit too strong, were convincing. In addition, the story can stand by itself. Jun 7, 2021 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews It stinks, but only from the perfume it releases in the theater. Rated: B Jul 2, 2020 Full Review TV Guide This beautifully photographed mystery/chase film takes its cast through the Spanish landscape, but the real star of the picture is "Smell-O-Vision." j F Spectacular scenery of Southern Spain and Granada, and unmatched art in the credits at the end. The story was ok, and a different Peter Lorre emerged as the driver. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/11/24 Full Review nick s The cinematography is awesome; the film stock comparable to modern movies in resolution. The sights and sounds of Spain were well exploited in the action scenes. The main two characters had a lot of charm. So too did many of the scenes, in particular the very British finale. I did find the story a little meandering. I wasn't a fan of the voiceover as I found it killed the intensity. Some of the ADR was a bit rough too. Overall an entertaining movie & a good attempt to do something a bit different. I wish I could have seen it in Smell o vision! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/01/24 Full Review linda b This movie has it all. Great cast, breathtaking cinematography, witty writing, comedy, romance, adventure, mystery plus a delightful surprise ending. I loved it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review Frances H This first and last smell-o-vision film really is as rotten as it probably smelled! Couldn't even finish it, it's acting and script were so odiferous! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/01/20 Full Review Audience Member Not bad, a bit slow start yet it's good enough for a mystery from the 60's Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member The picture -- with or without the smells -- is a fun picture, expertly directed by Jack Cardiff.
