Scott Tobias The Dissolve Scream Blacula Scream does better than Blacula at playing up Marshall's magisterial power, but gone is the tragedy that underpinned the original. Rated: 2/5 Mar 2, 2015 Full Review J.C. Maçek III PopMatters Blacula was a drama first and a horror and blaxploitation enterprise after that. Scream Blacula Scream is a blaxploitation horror film that takes its influence not just from its predecessor, but the burgeoning subgenre as the whole. Rated: 4/10 Apr 13, 2015 Full Review Matt Brunson Creative Loafing Scream Blacula Scream is a tad more polished than its predecessor but also a tad less fun, with too much time spent on dull or annoying characters. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 4, 2015 Full Review John Beifuss Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) Blacula becomes something of a slave-master, even as he disdains humans who exploit other humans. 'You made a slave of your sister, and you're still slaves, imitating your slave masters!' he lectures a pair of pimps before tossing them through a window. Rated: 3/4 Mar 25, 2015 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Even though it has a few chilling and comical moments, overall it drags and doesn't have much of a bite. Michael C "Scream Blacula Scream" is not a worthy successor to the original blaxploitation classic. The two best things to say about the movie are the late William Marshall as the title character (of course) and Pam Grier as Lisa Fortier. Beyond that there is not much else to say about this dull and slow moving film. The rest of the movie's characters were just not very compelling. The movie started off very badly in my opinion with how Blacula was brought back to life. How contrived can you get? The main story itself was way too formulaic. The hero of this movie, former Police Officer Justin Carter (Played by the late Don Mitchell.) is convinced a recent string of murders are being committed by a vampire. Nobody including his former boss on the force, Lieutenant Harry Dunlop (Played by a pre-"Hill Street Blues" Michael Conrad.) don't believe him until......how many times have we seen that before? The movie also does not end, it just stops leaving a few unanswered questions. My advice is to skip "Scream Blacula Scream" and instead watch the original. That movie is not perfect, but much more worth your time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/25/24 Full Review William R. P Just terrible ......................... Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/19/24 Full Review Pure L Not as top 5 as the first but still top 5 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Brent A 10% rating ... Absolutely waste of time. Not worth seeing. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/14/23 Full Review Alan C Funny as a Svengoolie movie . A great , really bad movie ..... ........................... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member If you're trying to be the king of voodoo, don't bring the bones of Prince Mamuwalde back to life. Maybe voodoo queen Mama Loa knew what she was doing when she chose Lisa Fortier (Pam Grier) as her successor instead of her son Willis (Richard Lawson, Poltergeist). Sadly, this movie has murky lighting, bad direction and a dumb story, but no matter what, William H. Marshall gives Blacula a dignity beyond this movie and Pam Grier is, well, Pam Grier. So if we just go with the magical power of this movie's two main actors, it's a success in spite of itself. That said, I fully do not believe in the ending that has Lisa get upset when she sees Blacula take out some policemen. The Medveds claimed that this was the Worst Blaxploitation Movie of All Time. Come on. In a perfect world, we also would have seen Taste the Blood of Blacula, Blacula On Sugar Hill and Blacula Sunday. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
