David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a thoroughly worthless family film that squanders a decent premise from start to finish. Rated: 1/4 Aug 14, 2015 Full Review Brian Webster Apollo Guide It's refreshing to see images that are uncommon in mainstream kids movies, especially when this Chinese creativity is so full of colour and vitality. A Chinese movie with special effects done by Centro, which is based in Hong Kong, and dubbed by Disney for English speaking audiences. This film is about a young boy who learns that doing the work yourself is more fulfilling than having a magic gourd do all the work for you. The plot had the right idea, but wasn't paced very well and didn't set up the plot points well enough for them to pay off later. The acting is wooden at best, though that may be a cultural barrier. The Magic Gourd was computer animated and looked like a cheap Mr. Potato Head. The special effects do not get past a cartoonish look. Corbin Bleu, from The High School Musical movies, voices the Gourd and does alright with what he was given. I do not think this movie is worth your time, skip it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review andy h It borrows from other properties, including those of Disney, but you can't help but admire its effort to be smart and charming. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie scarred me as a child. The Guord is ugly as hell. The part where he splits himself in half gave me nightmares. I found a picture of this monstrosity on google images, and it unearthed flashbacks I never knew I had. Please, spare the minds of your innocent children. Do not let them watch this cursed film. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member a total kiddy pic & Disney trying to capitalize on Asian anime only made it 25 minutes into it-yuck Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Moo goo gai pan. Cream of sum yung gy. Stir fri cat. Mi yong gow hoochi goochi mow ying. Terrible. Boring. Crappy animation. Dumb story. Ugh.
