Livie a Directed by Clair Scanlon Set it Up is a 2018 rom com that stars Glen Powell and Zoey Duetch. First of all is it me or is Glen Powell not in every modern rom com ever made. That man is everywhere. This movie follows two overworked assistants (Harper and Charlie) as they try to get their bosses into a relationship with each other so the assistants can get more time out of the office. Instead while planning they're scheme they end up falling for each other. Harper (Zoey Duetch) refers to it as “cyranoing” which as Charlie (Glen Powell) points out when he finds out what that means it is definitely not and it is “parent trapping”. I'm not sure if it would be safe to say it’s my favorite romcom, but it’s at least safe to say it’s in my top five. One thing that is cliche I know it is , but I love it anyway is that both Harper and Charlie are adorkable in her own way. I love seeing an adorkable man as well as an adorkable woman. I love when rom coms flip tropes like that, adorkable man, manic pixie dream boy ect. One of my favorite parts is the opening sequence. This is a montage of assistance being called by their bosses either in person and on the phone. Within this montage there are also errands being run. I love this because it is very funny and Jaboukie Young White has a cameo where he explains that his bosses rules to duplicate her key “supersede the state of New York’s”. At the end of the thesis sequence everyone leaves work for the day except for Harper and Charlie who are working late. This is the first of multiple montages including them giving their bosses gifts from each other and spending time with friends and such since they now have the time. Harper and Charlie’s witty banter in they’re scheming makes you fall in love with them. Then there’s the irony of them trying to manufacture a relationship between their bosses and in doing so not realizing the very real relationship they are creating with each other. Now. is this film a triumph and a filmmaking masterpiece. No, of course not. It doesn’t ask the questions that probe the mind's deepest recesses. However it is a really fun time on a friday night with your girls or curled up on the couch with your partner. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Sadie W So manay great lines and moments! I can't believe it isn't more commonly referenced in the real world. Quickly became one of my faves! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Ramith N Such a great movie! I highly recommend watching this one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/24 Full Review Audience Member Not enough romance imo I wanted to see more. If Glenn Powell and the other shorty started doing it in the middle of the movie I would’ve liked it more Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/01/24 Full Review Daryl D $5 pizza really do be the best food Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/24 Full Review ela p Unbelievably bad. Painful at times. Low points just keep on coming. I didn't like anyone and actually wished many characters ill. Relieved to see the closing credits. An unmitigated disaster.
