Shaky Shivers is goofy, silly, zany, and impossible to resist. In fact, what’s most charming about the film is just how confident Kang is in the material – enough to pop up in a hilariously unflattering cameo that truly has to be seen to be believed.

Kung has a tiny budget to bring “Shaky Shivers” to life, and the effort is aided by his leads, Markham and Nguyen, who deliver big charm and appealing enthusiasm for the material, which definitely needs their spirit.

Shaky Shivers is a goofy, over-the-top throwback to 80s horror movies. The setup is fun — two best friends stuck at an abandoned camp with a spell book and monsters — but the tone is comedy first, horror second. Some of the jokes (including the absurd spells and slapstick moments) were a tad chuckle-worthy, but overall it leaned too silly for me. The practical monster effects were surprisingly impressive (given the film's low budget), especially the zombie makeup, but the story setups and gags didn’t hit the way something like Tucker & Dale vs. Evil does. Unexpected, funny, and special. People who don't like this movie are the same folks who keep the Kardashians relevant - gross. The people are 'real' in a way I don't see very often in American movies.
