What to Know

Critics Consensus

Although the plot is really nothing to brag about, Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson work well together. The cinematography looks great, and Jackie delivers a hilarious performance. This is an old-fashioned crowd-pleaser.

Nell Minow Common Sense Media Engaging Jackie Chan movie for older teens and up. Rated: 3/5 Dec 28, 2010 Full Review Derek Adams Time Out Much of its strength comes from the central clash between Jackie's indomitable energy and Wilson's knowingly anachronistic cool, while lots of visual and verbal gags keep things whistling. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Andy Richards Sight & Sound Shanghai Noon is an accomplished follow-up to Jackie Chan's first big-budget US film Rush Hour. Dec 2, 2002 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand This East-meets-Old-West action comedy is hardly original, but the unlikely team clicks. Aug 19, 2023 Full Review Tony Black Cultural Conversation Shanghai Noon feels both like a flashback to an earlier time of more innocent pictures, and also slightly predictive of the vanguard of colourful comic-book cinema to come. Rated: 3/5 Feb 14, 2021 Full Review James Plath Family Home Theater It's a clever variation on the buddy cop picture, with Jackie Chan showing both his comic chops and his martial arts skills, and Owen Wilson doing what he does best-playing a laid-back, chick-magnet California surfer dude. Cudalbu R Nevr thought those two make such a duet! Glad I was wrong. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/23/24 Full Review Oaklee D A popcorn flick that's full of dumb fun. The film itself is a retread of the team up to save the girl story but the laughs and action make up for the basic plot. Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson have great chemistry. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review Faiz D Highly entertaining film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Max W Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson are truly a pair of jokers; their considerable chemistry, combined with Jackie Chan's signature martial arts moves, are enough to overshadow the lackluster aspects of the plot. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/23 Full Review Timothy D Chan and Wilson are outstanding, and the pair will have you rolling and invested in the story even if the plot is a little silly.
