When a number of attractive women are found dead and with fingers missing, Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) investigate. Though evidence points to a psychotic killer, Holmes begins to believe that there's more to the case than initially meets the eye, a notion that leads him to uncover the involvement of his archenemy, Professor Moriarty (Henry Daniell). Who is working with Moriarty on such a dastardly plot, and what are their motives?

It's one of the best in the series, partly because it strays from formula and partly because it summons some genuine mystery. Go to Full Review

Holly W Oct 18 Basil is great as Sherlock Holmes, just minor critisms there were not modern flashlight torches during Sherlock Holmes era or modern table lights. A couple of other props and set dressings that otherwise deflect from a good film. Get past these and the storyline is worth a watch. See more Russ G Apr 4 A passable installment in the Rathbone / Bruce pairing portraying the classic British sleuth and the good doctor. It's marred only by a rather rushed and disconnected conclusion. It features Holmes's frequent nemesis Professor Moriarty and a fashionable femme fatale, the titular woman in green. See more Josh G 03/26/2024 The sharpest technical wise of all the Sherlock films, but the story can be a bit silly the whole hypnotism thing, enjoyable and well acted but silly at times. Its a slow and I do mean a very slow murder mystery movie. See more s r @ScottR 01/03/2017 Good, but not quite great. See more Read all reviews
