Zita Short InSession Film Sullavan’s character comes across as mean in this film as she has none of the redeeming features that make a lot of her other tough broads so easy to like. Feb 9, 2023 Full Review Ann Ross Maclean's Magazine Anyone who remembers anything about the War knows that some very unlikely romances flowered when the boys were starting for France. So perhaps the case of the Shopworn Angel isn't really as improbable as it may seem to the younger generation. Jul 22, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Steve D Cute because of its stars. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Audience Member A cute romantic comedy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/05/17 Full Review s r A sweet and predictable romantic comedy with a soldier centric plot. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review ashley h Shopworn Angel is a decent film. It a naive young Texan soldier is sent to New York for basic training during WWI. James Stewart and Margaret Sullivan give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. H.C. Potter did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama and romance. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Watch out or you'll get buried by the amount of corn in this picture, but it still totally works because no one does earnest corn like Jimmy Stewart, for he seems to actually mean everything he says, no matter how hokey. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautifully wrought picture with exquisite performances from the two leads. Margaret Sullavan was truly one of the most effective actresses of the golden age, able to wring the most genuine emotions out of any situation. She and Jimmy made a great team since her slightly bruised fragility always blended so well with his gentle naivete. The story is just a simple boy meets girl tale with a few twists but because of the stars as well as Walter Pidgeon, complicating matters but also being wise and warm, and the always amazing Hattie McDaniel, being her usual flip self it remains involving throughout.
