Critics Consensus

While not without its moments, Shrek Forever After too often feels like a rote rehashing of the franchise's earlier entries.

Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express [Shrek Forever After] is a satisfactory way to end the series. Rated: 3/5 Apr 16, 2019 Full Review Deborah Ross The Spectator The rot set in with the third film, I think, and now, with the fourth, it's decomposed and gone to that black sludge you get at the bottom of the bin. Aug 30, 2018 Full Review Andrew O'Hagan London Evening Standard The movie is a family drama about the family drama, so on every available level it works a treat. Rated: 4/5 Jul 8, 2010 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) A hazy melancholy result for adults and excessive abstraction for children. [Full review in Spanish] Jul 15, 2022 Full Review Andrea Hubert NME (New Musical Express) Fourth time isn't the charm. Rated: 2.5/5 May 19, 2021 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins With this fourth entry in the series, it's clear this franchise is becoming more episodic than theatrical. The H Honestly one of my favorite movies, not sure why it seems so hated compared to the other Shrek's, I've never watched a movie 3 times in a row until this movie, it was that amazing to me. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/25 Full Review Audience Member Really good movie :) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/25 Full Review Mark M Shrek Forever After is slighty better than it's predecessor but has nothing amazing to offer but a story that doesn't captivate the the first 2 movies' charm Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/15/25 Full Review Audience Member Pretty Good in my opinion Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review Maria C I don't understand what all the hate is about towards what I have to say is the most iconic film out of all of the shrek films. Rumplestilskin is on par with Lord Farquaad for being one of the best villains on the show, with a quirky voicing style which is just fabulous. His sass is outmatched and the writing of the little gags and the ironic scenes in the show as a whole are great. But nothing would make it a 5 star film if it wasn't for the main man himself... 'Do The Roar' Kid. He's changed pop culture forever, and become a cult classic meme which is the least he deserves for delivering us ,what I have to say, are THE best lines of the entire film. Saying, 'I love you daddy' in his weird little voice made me cry so hard the trajectory of my life shifted in that moment. Without 'do the roar' the Internet would not be the same, and for that I'm eternally grateful to Shrek 4 and would happily give it its well deserved 5 star review Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/25 Full Review Shrek L this movie is disapointing to the Shrek cinematic universe we lost shrek I hope shrek 5 is better than this C-tier of a movie although it is watchable and is a perfect conclusion but shrek 5 is in of reach and could finally restore the perfection of the Shrek series Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/04/25 Full Review Read all reviews
