An overlooked Russian film, sat in Taiga, Sibiria. We meet a man and his seven year old boy. They are not up to much in this little village other than surviving. He drinks, the kid draws and loves dogs. There are a pack of wild dogs running around eating everything here too, they do play a role. When some army guys enter the place we get into that story as well, so we follow them just as much as our two first protagonists.
It's a raw but slow paced film. It's an easy film, often flat - but still there are interesting things going on here. The violence is rugged, the realism is strong and the music and shots are wonderful. It has some artsier moments too. I'm annoyed that I lost parts of it since I used my phone to much since it's probably a very rewarding film if you hang on to the flatter parts. It had some "Vozvraschenie" here and there, especially the character study that I just partly got.
A good film, but maybe a bit dragged and long, and yet again - I picked the wrong night for a film like this.
7 out of 10 wells.
