Amitabh and Jaya have given fantastic performances. Timeless songs. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member If you are an Amitabh's fan, you gotta watch this movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member great story to watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Saturday, December 06, 2008 Amitabh Bachchan: "Kabhi Kabhie" and "Silsila" Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities These are two early movies (1976 and 1981, respectively) which were produced by Yash Chopra and starring Amitabh Bachchan. I watched them pretty much back to back, and when I read the synopsis of the second film, "Silsila," I thought they might be the same film (the first had a female star named Rakhee, and the second had a female star named Rekha; Shashi Kapoor is in both movies; and in each case, the main stars love each other, but end up marrying someone else). Shortly into the second film, "Silsila," other than the nice sweater collections worn by Amitabh, I realized that the movies are very different. Of the two, "Silsila" is the most memorable to me. It features a re-connection between the original lovers (the characters played by Amitabh and Rekha) after they have married someone else. From my understanding, the depiction of this affair (including bedroom scenes, tastefully done, of course) and the growing suspicions of the innocent spouses would have been a bold step in Indian cinema at the time. To make the movie even more interesting, Jaya Bachchan plays the innocent spouse of Amitabh in the movie. Considering the emotions invoked by the affair in the movie, add this: Amitabh's innocent wife in the film is played by his real wife, Jaya Bachchan (they were married in 1973). Amitabh's early love and with whom he has the affair in the film is played by Rekha, a lady with whom he has co-starred in several previous movies and to whom he had been rumored to have had a real-life "connection," if not an actual affair. To sum up "Silsila," it sizzles. Here is a quote from a web-site: The rumours of an extra-marital affair swirled around Amitabh until the early 1980s, when Yash Chopra pulled off a major casting coup in Silsila. The film starred Amitabh, Jaya (this was her first ever on-screen credit as Jaya Bachchan) and Rekha in a love triangle that was believed to mirror their real life. The publicist and the fans of the three stars could not have asked for more. http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/specials/amitabh/affairs2.htm Jaya Bachchan paused her acting career for about 15 years after the filming of "Silsila" ended. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member All time classic...have to say was ahead of its time...even before i existed....great performances...super songs...the chemistry...hmm....watch it if you havent Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
