Audience Member Pretty bad. Absurd storyline that kind of wants to be as much a character study as a dramatic narrative but fails miserably at both. The best I can say for it was the color was crisp and sharp on the DVD I saw and the sets and cinematography were surprisingly good for such a obviously "B" picture. The clunky, leaden scenes drag on interminably and are great reverse examples of the writing maxim of "show, don't tell." These scenes all do the latter, telling us of these episodes that supposedly happened previously. Several times we go to flashbacks only (for the most part) to be TOLD (never shown) what supposedly happened previous to that. It's downright painful after awhile. Despite Winchell's comically earnest introduction lauding Maynsfield's acting, she's pretty bad in this. Admittedly there's not much for her to work with here, but even so, there's no nuance or pathos to her performance. I was rooting for her to be good here and show some acting chips but sadly she's just a notch or two up from one-dimensional. The film ends on a particularly shrill and unnerving (not to mention dramatically nonsensical) final scene. Its status as Jayne's final film is the only reason to watch this. As a film, it's pretty wretched. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite the glowing journalistic review before the film has even begun, this is no smokescreen for it is ultimately an uninspiring stage play drama put onto film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member A product of its time that has aged in a strange and beautiful way. It is corny, but buried underneath all the melodrama is some truth. It's not really acting, it's like watching little kids acting out our adult nightmares, which makes it all the more heart-wrenching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty corny, Mansfield's luminous presence cannot save this one, as it meanders around with a dumbass side story that was added to fill out the running time after Mansfield died. Poor acting and a scattered script makes this one only worth it to poke fun at or for the completist. Rental? Maybe? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member This is hardly a movie. It's just a series of skits or something with TV teleplay production quality badly strung together. Imagine "Love, American Style" on ether, but awful. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member When awful fake accents are the best part of a picture, it must be a B movie. This one's just not any fun. Only notable because Mansfield passed away before it was finished. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
