      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Sister Act is off-key in this reprise, fatally shifting the spotlight from Whoopi Goldberg to a less compelling ensemble of pupils and trading its predecessor's sharp comedy for unconvincing sentiment.

Rami A Pretty much underwhelming. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Michael W This sequel to the classic movie was great. Whoopi Goldberg, Lauryn Hill, Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena, Maggie Smith, James Coburn, Barnard Hughes, and the rest of the cast did a great job in this movie. The story of the movie was dramatic and inspirational. It's about saving a school from shutting down and discovering the talent that you have and showing it to the world. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's worth watching. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Tom W Oh Happy Day (Ryan Toby) made me cry. The movie was a religious parable. And Joyful, Joyful (Lauryn Hill) was a sermon. I enjoyed the movie thoroughly, as I did revisiting those two numbers on YouTube. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/06/24 Full Review StephenPaul C The worst 01 hour: and 46 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/08/23 Full Review jonathan q She touched my heart! Everyday! Oh happy day! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This was one of those films that I relive every so often, I think Whoopi Goldberg does a fantastic job in this film to recapture the magic that she did in the first movie. Do I think it's best no, and I don't think it's whatsoever. But I think it's enjoyable enough to actually watch the film and add it to a biyearly rotation or something Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times Even by sequel standards, a minimal amount of creativity has gone into "Sister Act 2," and not even the talents of its cast, including several likable young people, can compensate for this thrown-together feeling. Jun 3, 2020 Full Review Jay Boyar Orlando Sentinel Considering how terribly resistible (to me, at least) last year's Sister Act was, the sequel seems like a movie miracle. Jun 3, 2020 Full Review Michael Wilmington Chicago Tribune Why Whoopi took up the habit here is a mystery-unless she's tired of this part and wants to make sure there won't be any more "Sister Acts." Rated: 0.5/4 Jun 3, 2020 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …music is the one thing this sequel gets right… Rated: 2/5 Feb 22, 2023 Full Review Andrew Chan 4Columns A singer's movie for the ages, one with virtually no contemporary rivals. It feels like a film that could have been made only by people who understand on an intuitive level why we sing in the first place. Feb 5, 2021 Full Review Rachel Wagner rachelsreviews.net It gave us a beautiful soundtrack with engaging performances and a story that while admittedly generic is extremely likable and easy cheer for.
