Steve D There isn't a lot here besides its star who has nowhere near enough to do. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/06/23 Full Review David K Barbara Stanwyck is simply one of the greatest actresses of all time. She holds this film together. The film itself is just okay but she's terrific. The story definitely shows influence from the anti-capitalist sentiments from that period with Barbara remonstrating her son because he wants to be rich as a bond salesman rather than the more artistic venture of an architect. Now, what parent doesn't want their child to do something they don't want to do? But, here the emphasis is on the souless choice of dealing in capital markets. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Read the book -- this movie is very far from the mark. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Good, though slow paced. Young Betty Davis. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member this pre-code version of this story is still my favorite about a mother and her son Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member This 1932 version of the wonderful Edna Ferber book feels so abbreviated. The ending is downright abrupt. At least it has Barbara Stanwyck and a beautiful young Bette Davis in it, but that's about all I can say that's good.
