Marie S Though it was a box office flop panned by critics, this is a guilty pleasure. One that I included in my DVD collection. It features up and coming actors whi go on to have great careers. They future success can be seen blooming in this movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/24 Full Review Audience Member I love this movie. It was 80’s B movie fun with an A movie budget. The cast was stunning. Lucas Haas, Jamie Gertz, Jason Patric, Peter Deluise, Adrian Pasdar, Sarah Douglas, Terrence Mann, Charles Durning. I mean, come ON! I remember there were a slew of these post apocalyptic, desert world movies out around this time, all due to the success Mad Max, no doubt. Each one had a specific twist that tried to differentiate it from the rest. Steel Dawn had swords. Cherry 2000 had a sexbot. Buckaroo Banzai had time travel. This one had...rollerskates. It sounds silly and admittedly it kind of is but the cast is fun to watch and some of the effects are still pretty cool. There was a lot of drama behind the scenes with the first director being fired and more money being put into it in hopes of it becoming a blockbuster. It was a huge failure but I loved it. Even more so now. To see the beginnings of so many formidable actors (this was released a year before The Lost Boys) is pretty fantastic. Its a fun 80’s experience. Definable worthy of being in any collection. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/10/20 Full Review Audience Member This movie was part of my childhood, I loved it and watched it several times as well as the goonies, and flash gordon, I guess I like the rag tag misfit group that over comes the bad guys and saves their situation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Nostalgic to my childhood. I was six when I saw this movie and had a soft spot for it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Back in the dark ages when you had to buy a new book every year for movie ratings, this didn't receive even one star. It received a TURKEY. But, I don't care. I love this movie as many others do. Give it a shot. Please. For all the turkeys. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member All of the 1980's fantasy cliches are here and none of them work. Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Since the movie so clearly required great dedication, especially in its visual effects and the use of its desert locations, I can only wonder why they didn't spend equal effort on finding an original story to tell. Rated: 2/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Paul Attanasio Washington Post "Solarbabies" is a hilariously bad movie that doesn't make much sense and isn't much good when it does. Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins The abundance of unintentional laughs doesn’t help the cause, especially when it comes to combating the likes of an evil robot – hilariously programmed to take pleasure in its savage assignments. Rated: 2/10 Sep 22, 2022 Full Review David Elliott Copley News Service Solarbabies is baked in the cliche oven, and then iced with derivations. Jul 19, 2019 Full Review J.R.
