Nikolai H Well, it's definitely better than 8% like the ratings suggest, but it's not great. For a slasher, it's better than average. Good cinematography, good eerie atmosphere, suspenseful, thin but reasonable plot. But as with most slashers, I really wish they relied less on the lead making stupid decisions. She's not the dumbest lead I've ever seen in a slasher, and she has some creative ideas which keep things interesting, but there are definitely a lot of "why on earth would you DO that?" moments. It's mostly enjoyable and a fun watch at night, but then the resolution intensified that feeling of "there's an obvious solution so why doesn't she see it?" and left me feeling a bit annoyed. But hey. I'm usually left a bit disappointed with slashers, and this gets a lot of great ratings on Shudder by people who love this kind of thing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/03/17 Full Review Audience Member Loaded with amateurish acting, unbelievable characters and practically unspeakable dialogue, the film reads like a 15-certificate episode of Goosebumps. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member I didn't care much for Solo on my first viewing but upon subsequent viewings have come to enjoy it a bit more. The concept behind the film is a pretty good one and has the right idea but first time Director Isaac Cravit doesn't manage to deliver. The acting in Solo is surprisingly effective. While I never got a real sense of fear of nature from the film, the main character sure did. Solo just doesn't pay off. It has a tendency to stray a little bit much, fills the story with poorly thoughout subplots, and when things are supposed to be scary... they aren't. Heck, even the climax is rather dull. But in terms of first time writer/director low budget horror, Solo manages more than a lot of similar projects. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Competently shot, and decently acted. There is nothing wrong with Solo, but then there is nothing particularly great about it either. It is just sort of there. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This horror has a nicely filmed isolated location, but the storyline makes little sense and is ultimately just a few scares. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member This would have been much better if it had actually lived up to its title. There's not enough solo as all of the extra characters sort of clutter up the movie. It is beautifully shot though, but the story sort of limps along. It does have a few creepy moments in the beginning but the acting could use some help. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
