In the wake of his jeweler father's murder at the hands of a bandit, Indian orphan Karim (Ramon Novarro) finds himself wrongfully accused of the theft of an invaluable inherited diamond. With the help of a visiting Yankee, William Darsay (Conrad Nagel), Karim manages to evade prosecution and finds a foothold in the jewel trade. But, after Karim falls for Darsay's younger sister, Janice (Madge Evans), the prejudiced reaction to their love threatens to destroy all he has built.
