      Son of the Pink Panther

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Roberto Benigni is an undeniably gifted physical comic, but the misguided Son of Pink Panther betrays his energetic efforts with a painfully unfunny script.

alan g Brings dishonor to the franchise. Whoever greenlit this movie should be fired. Horrible acting acting, insipid plot, unfunny. Avoid. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Alec B Like the last two movies this is both unnecessary and entirely unfunny. Benigni is mostly trying something different here but none of it works (His character might just be too much of a nice guy in a series that often thrived on Sellers' pompous Clouseau). Hard to tell how much of that is his fault or the direction or the terrible script or just all of the above. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review DAVIDE B Al contrario di quanto dice certa "gente" sotto, il film merita. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/06/22 Full Review Audience Member This movie looks as if it started out as a serious attempt to revive the Pink Panther series, but in mid-production everyone decided it wasn't going to work out, so they end up going through the motions. The plot is weak-really, Dreyfus ends up being in love with Maria Gambrelli? And the laughs are few. Roberto Benigni is the only person in the movie who shows any enthusiasm, and he is the only one who seems to genuinely try to be funny. Unfortunately, he ends up acting silly, rather than like Clouseau who is a man who tries to act dignified even in spite of all the (unintended) bumbling he does. Still, even Peter Sellers could hardly have done much more with this material. Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader [Benigni's] cheerful physicality and soul -- combined with Edwards's continuing feel for slapstick -- give the tired routines of Son of the Pink Panther whatever life they have. Rated: 1/4 Jul 23, 2014 Full Review Peter Rainer Los Angeles Times Edwards actually sets the stage at the end for a sequel. Is there anybody out there who would want to see it? More to the point, would Edwards want to make it? Jul 23, 2014 Full Review Jay Boyar Orlando Sentinel This movie will finally kill off the series. Zest, creativity, density, paprika, astonishment, speed. Most of all: speed. Slapstick is like basketball -- if it doesn't happen fast, it doesn't happen. Rated: 2/4 Jul 23, 2014 Full Review Todd Anthony New Times Stay away at all costs. Do not be lulled by nostalgic memories of Inspector Clouseau's malapropisms; do not be fooled by slick print or TV ads; do not let your kids talk you into it.
