Ed Travis Hollywood Jesus I just didn't enjoy myself very much as the story played out. South Of Heaven embraces its low-budget nature by shooting entirely on sets that look like sets, almost like a filmed play. Apr 1, 2020 Full Review Scott Weinberg Cinematical It's the Coens meets Sam Fuller while watching Looney Tunes and making an '80s mix tape full of The Smiths and Depeche Mode. I (freak)ing loved it. Audience Member One brother is held mentally captive by a Mad Dog. The other brother finds transformation via a brutal beatdown. Soon they will collide in a burst of oddball violence. South of Heaven has a fun cast, wild colors, and probably weird for weird's sake painted backdrops. Is it good? Maybe. I definitely like Shea Whigham's wacko killer and Diora Baird is surprisingly effective as the little girl lost. Still, feels like it was made by a couple guys who just really love David Lynch films. Not VF. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a play... not a movie. Even if technically it is a movie, it really plays as though it's just a movie of a play. The monologues just keep coming and coming and the sets look like they were for a high school musical. Visually, the costumes and style are interesting and the characters/acting aren't bad. But this film should be left alone. Trust me Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member A curious noir riff, grounded by Shea Whigham's remarkable performance as a psychopath (sociopath?) on the run. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I WANT AN HOUR AND A HALF OF MY LIFE BACK PLEASE. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Just awful. After the fourth pretentious monologue I was bored, after the fifteenth I was ready to walk out the door. Starts with a promising idea and has a very unique style, but it becomes increasingly painful to watch as the characters endlessly talk in circles. If edited, it would make a great ten minute short, but at 90 odd minutes it becomes a test of wills just to stay seated. Definitely one to avoid. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member : Neo-noir crime and revenge story that won Best Film at FANTASTICFEST this year. A young introvert moves to the city to finish the great American novel when a simple case of mistaken identity leaves him broken, disfigured and out for revenge. Add some quirky hit men, a Mad Dog killer, heaps of violence and femme fatales and you have one hell of a crime story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
