Critics always complain that a movie is bad when the aliens speak English, this movie is realistic in that area. Some of the jokes are longer than they should be. Like "Cloudy With A Change of Meatballs" sequel, it lost the heart for more jokes. Also the humans understand of the chimps isn't consistent, sometimes they hear Chimp chittering others they understand every word? Does the ship's radio come with a translator? It's never explained.
