      Critics Consensus

While the buddy cops at the center of Spenser Confidential are plenty affable, the comedy never arrives as this half-hearted vehicle goes purely through the motions.

Santino W If your standard for what makes a good movie is low. Which, let's face it, is the case for most people these days... then this film is for you. I didn't hate it... But would I watch it again? Absolutely not. Just a generic buddy cop movie with bad acting all round and jokes that fall short. The twist was predictable and this movie fails to bring anything new to the table. I would class this film as good background noise whilst you're scrolling through your phone. It's a shame, anything with Mark W. In it had the potential to be a really enjoyable film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review GuestLord D It'sall right, nothing special Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review Pongo K Classic "bad cop" movie. You get what you get, and that's ok. Watch it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Koi P Corruption, fighting for justice, and rooting for the good guys. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/24 Full Review Sean S This movie is just mid. It is your run of the mill buddy cop movie that tries its best to be funny but just falls flat. With that being said, Mr. Arkin per usual nails every joke this movie has to offer. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Jess H This was better than what I was expecting. The comedy is dry and low key, but I found it funny. Great action, the story and villain was predictable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Wenlei Ma News.com.au Spenser Confidential is too anaemic to be anything other than a paint-by-numbers bore offering nothing new and trying to skate by on Wahlberg's charisma alone. Rated: 2/5 Apr 6, 2020 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald You don't need to remember the '80s private-eye series Spenser for Hire to enjoy this witless, charmless Mark Wahlberg Netflix movie. All you need is a general lack of discernment. Mar 11, 2020 Full Review Ignatiy Vishnevetsky AV Club An ending that teases the possibility of sequels, with Wahlberg's Spenser tackling more cases of police officers and emergency personnel who have been falsely accused of crimes, should elicit nothing but groans. Rated: C- Mar 11, 2020 Full Review Ethan Gordon InSession Film It’s disappointing to see Peter Berg slink away from what seemed like a solid career as an action-craftsman/director for hire. He can apply competence, he just doesn’t seem to want to. Rated: C+ Mar 21, 2024 Full Review Elizabeth Garcia But Why Tho? A Geek Community Spenser Confidential is a run of the mill action movie that can’t decide if it wants to be Training Day or Rush Hour. Rated: 3/10 Jan 21, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It has a throwback vibe to it that makes it all pretty easy to digest. But it’s even easier to forget.
