What to Know

Critics Consensus

A visually stunning film that may be too predictable and politically correct for adults, but should serve children well.

Nell Minow Common Sense Media Many kids will like this mustang tale. Rated: 3/5 Dec 28, 2010 Full Review Todd McCarthy Variety There's nothing thrilling or new about the work here, but accomplished it is. Jun 11, 2008 Full Review Michael Booth Denver Post Spirit is smarter than your average cartoon because it doesn't try to joke around with a host of annoying talking animals. Dec 26, 2007 Full Review Rachel Wagner rachelsreviews.net The stunning 2D animation let's nature tell it's own story without any tropes of current animation. Rated: A+ Mar 12, 2019 Full Review Malcolm Johnson Hartford Courant Visually stunning, and fitfully dramatic. Jun 8, 2018 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed When the movie wants to look majestic, the colors truly emanate, but when it wants to look grim, it can look very grim and moody; I was breath taken. Audience Member One of my old time favorite when I was a little girl. This movie still has a special place in my heart. It made me love the horses even more. The OST of the movie and Bryan Adams singing in english AND in French was an absolute banger. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Audience Member I dare say that adults can appreciate this movie more than children. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/17/24 Full Review Isaiah B My girlfriend absolutely loves this movie and it has been her absolute favorite since childhood, she knows every word and no matter how many times she watches this it always brings her to tears. Such a beautiful and well made movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/09/24 Full Review Jérémi L Top 3 best animation movie... How the story is built around a character that doesn't speaks! Sure something his inner voice speaks but its so rare, Bryan Adams is the real voice of Spirit, and that is what makes this movie so distinct and great Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review GreatGoogly M I stumbled upon this gem of a movie for free on YouTube and decided to watch. Wow! The whole movie has stood the test of time- the music, the animation, the feeling. Such a wonderful movie that I've adored for (I can't believe) 22 years!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/07/24 Full Review DAX T This was my first experience with a DreamWorks movie. It’s God like. The opening score captures the wonder and scale of the American north west. And speaking of, the score from the first song to the last is mind blowingly good. Thanks to Hans Zimmer. But above all I can praise this piece of art for, the most note worthy is how unique it is. The animals don’t talk, the humans aren’t the focus and even the art style is unique. All this unique-ness would normally take out of a movie. Especially a kids one. But in this rare instance, it culminates into something incredible. Just good job. They really drove it home. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
