Another one of those 'you have to watch this movie just to experience how bad it is' experiences. Full of 70s movie stars, the film is immediately off-putting due to the terrible plot. A sabotaged supersonic plane should be exciting enough, but nope, let's double down by adding an exposed biological agent to infect all on board, and the rest of humanity. The cast do their best, but the premise, shocking special effects (absolutely laughable even for the time) and terrible plot means this is a real stinker.

Welcome to the newest member of my so-bad-it's-good hall of fame! Cast members from THE BRADY BUNCH, GILLIGAN'S ISLAND, BONANZA, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, SUPER PASSWORD and HEE HAW are the latest unlucky "actors" trapped on a flight destined for catastrophe. In this incarnation of the oh-so-popular 70s disaster pic, the fuel tanks are filled with detergent and a deadly box of influenza from Senegal, Africa breaks and infects the passengers. And, yes, this is played straight - even though the unintentional laughs here nearly match the intentional guffaws of AIRPLANE! three years later. This was apparently a made-for-television movie, which I had guessed quite early on, but I was a bit perplexed because there is a scene of rather explicit nudity featuring Misty Rowe from HEE HAW, in one of the worst screen performances in the history of celluloid, being hit on by game show host Bert Convy. It's a delight to see Peter Graves as a passenger here before moving on to pilot later in AIRPLANE!. If I were him, I would have stuck to traveling by bus. Look for small performances by Billy Crystal, talk show host Regis Philbin and others 70s luminaries. Reed is unintentionally hysterical here - when he gets angry he speaks faster and faster until you can't understand a single word he's saying. And you must watch it with subtitles - they don't use any punctuation and everything runs together. And in a scene where someone is speaking in a foreign language, the subtitler simply typed UM. It's the biggest laugh I've had in ages.

The special effects are laughable. Even for 1977. All the budget went for the many has been TV actors populating this Airport knockoff.

1977 TVM: Another one of those disaster movies that were prevalent in the 1970's, both in theaters and on TV. This one involves the maiden voyage of an SST, flying from New York to Paris. The flight is sabotaged by an upset crew member, and later, a viral package in cargo is ripped open, causing flu to persons on board. Typical disaster movie:- nothing great, nothing horrid. An all-star cast is involved, as par for the course for these pictures.
Stars Robert Reed, Doug McClure, Burgess Meredith, Martin Milner, Brock Peters, and many others. Look for a really young Billy Crystal as a steward, and even Regis Philbin as a rather obnoxious reporter!

A full TV movie about a plane that may not finish its flight is pretty ridiculous to think about, let alone watch. The cast is too good for this movie, but they do help with what little they can. Otherwise, it's a slow, painfully dull ride with cheap props and awful drama.

Ridiculous TV fare, fun if you like to star spot, including an extremely young Billy Crystal as a flight attendant, but otherwise worthless.
