Tom Atkinson Film Threat If you grew up on video store revenge flicks and have a soft spot for action that favours fists over finesse, this is serviceable, bullet-ridden fun. Rated: 6/10 Jun 23, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

simon b Dreadful in so many ways, one being that the central character is often unintelligible. (I switched on subtitles to remedy this) Strange too, after 6 years in prison he comes out looking EXACTLY the same as when he went in. I could go on, but what's the point? A really bad film. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/12/25 Full Review deus e From the outset, "Stand Your Ground" positions itself more symbolically than meaningfully. Walking in, I was open to the ride, expecting something akin to a violent, adult-oriented "Home Alone": clever traps, resourceful action sequences, and strategic use of the environment. The film opens promisingly with an energetic, action-filled prologue, reinforcing its genre credentials and introducing the titular "Stand Your Ground" law—the rule that violence is legally justified only inside one's home, not outside. This premise cleverly sets up a clear expectation for tactical, constrained violence, baiting antagonists into the house to justify each kill. At this point, the movie successfully hints at subtle commentary about the arbitrariness of legal thresholds—this literal line between justice and murder—and I was ready for it to deliver on that thematic promise. Instead, the pacing unexpectedly stalls. Rather than ramping up tension or cleverly setting pieces in motion, the film spends significant screen time rehashing its rules. One drawn-out encounter between the protagonist and an antagonist’s goon is particularly emblematic: they engage in a prolonged, verbally combative exchange about the threshold rule, reiterating information the audience already clearly understands. At this moment, I found myself impatiently checking the runtime, wondering when the film would move from explanation to action or at least develop deeper character connections or thematic resonance. The film’s critical failing, however, arrives shortly afterward. After all the careful repetition of its core rules, the first major act of post-setup violence—a stealthy garroting in someone's car—completely disregards them. This pivotal scene doesn't just bend the rules; it outright ignores them, without irony, subversion, or even acknowledgment. The carefully constructed premise is abruptly abandoned, leaving viewers who invested attention and goodwill feeling betrayed rather than shocked. From there, the film compounds its error by pushing forward into further confrontations and violence occurring entirely outside the home, all without returning to or even acknowledging the central conceit it spent so much time reinforcing. Rather than building meaningful tension or providing commentary, these scenes offer only shock followed by disappointment, dismantling any remaining hope that the film had thematic or narrative coherence in store. Ultimately, "Stand Your Ground" feels like a broken promise. It introduces a symbolic framework, reinforces it extensively, and then carelessly discards it, leaving a trail of confusion and dissatisfaction. It’s a missed opportunity—not merely because it neglects potential depth or commentary—but because it fails even to deliver on the straightforward pleasures and strategic action sequences its premise inherently promised. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/11/25 Full Review Travis D Just a great movie — I enjoyed it from start to finish. It builds suspense early on, then explodes into frenetic action. Peter Stormare — one of my favorite actors — really elevates it. Some parts felt a bit predictable, but overall it’s a fun ride and worth watching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/03/25 Full Review Chris B Just what it looks like, a garbage movie. Looking at the handful of reviewers that say this movie is amazing they are all either single review accounts or accounts that gave 5 stars to other Epic or Daniel Stinson movies. RT reviews have become meaningless over the last year or two because of things like this, they need to deal with it or they wont be around for long. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/01/25 Full Review SteDa G I don't know if there are bots writing reviews on RT, but this movie was horrible. Don't believe the "other" reviews. Good grief.... $6 gone forever! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/05/25 Full Review Salem A lovely action & actors ❤️👍 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/04/25 Full Review Read all reviews
