In World War II-era Georgia, Sudie (Sara Gilbert) and Simpson (Louis Gossett Jr.) make an unusual pair. Sudie is a 12-year-old white girl, and Simpson is an adult black man. Nevertheless, over time, the two develop a friendship that stirs up racial tensions in their small, segregated town, even though it's completely innocent. The controversy comes to a head when Simpson is accused of molesting Sudie, and the racist townsfolk gather a lynch mob to go after him.

Audience Member Too real to be a tear-jerker proper. Solid script, if it were a book you would stay up all night to finish it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member This was quite good, I remember it well.Don't you just hate the Dirty Minded Conclusions people unjustly jump to? This was a lovely, sweet friendship, people made it look inappropriate, it wasn't like that. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Sudie and Simpson is a classic all time favorite of mine. It's a powerful story that accurately depicts a hate filled racially discriminative period towards black people in America. Louis Gossett Jr. plays an incredible role, befriending a young caucasian girl during a time when such a relationship could so easily have gotten him killed. This is truly an awesome story and I highly recommend viewing it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
