Dmitry Samarov Chicago Reader Unfortunately, what Juergens presents onscreen comes across more like a loose scrapbook or vlog than a film. Jun 1, 2022 Full Review Jim Schembri jimschembri.com Extremely well-edited and briskly paced, Sunken Roads is an unconventional war documentary, its verite approach offering a retelling of a history-changing event that's highly personal, often touching and replete with insights into the realities of battle. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 16, 2022 Full Review Martha K. Baker AWFJ.org Sunken Roads adds to an understanding of history from the people in the room, on the landing craft, and on the beach. Dec 1, 2021 Full Review Michael Calleri Niagara Gazette [Director] Juergens was a 20-year-old filming and talking to people who were in their 90s, which made them at least 70-years older than she was. Some were older. Their words are riveting. Their emotions powerful. Nov 11, 2021 Full Review Wendy Shreve Featuring Film Take a moment to watch, listen to Sunken Roads. These brave men's stories, even in death, should never be silenced. Nov 2, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Wendy Through the eyes of a young woman, with 90 year old veterans as her guide, 70 years later we are able to see the impact of effects of war on the soldiers who had fought back the Nazi army in WWII and the people they liberated in a very personal way as we've never seen before. . Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/07/21 Full Review Audience Member Great film! Loved it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie starts out simply enough, with a short narration, and then the depth starts to unwind. This is a journey of memory, and meeting some who were there for what had the longest day of a major campaign that saw the end of the ugliest this world has to date. There are no re-enactment scenes, but photos, artwork, subdued sketches of people, and some scary scenes. The word pictures told by those who were there are vivid enough. One can feel much of the emotions of the whole project, the tearful remembrances, the heavy feelings felt by those who were there, and the feelings of those at the ceremonies in 2014. As fate would have it, there is an underlying story with an interesting resolution, almost a sub-plot that was not planned as part of this project. One must see the movie to understand this unplanned addition. This movie is well worth the time to view, it does not glorify war, but honors and remembers those who were there. Every generation wants to keep the future from having to go through the ugliness of war. As a peacetime veteran, and approaching Memorial Day, the heaviness of this cannot be missed, because We have we have: what we have today because there were countless people (mostly men) in the past, shall we say YESTERDAY, who were willing to sacrifice their TOMORROWS for what we have TODAY. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Really moving film. Makes me wish I could have had these kinds of conversations with my dad before he passed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved it! Nothing like other war docs. So refreshing to hear these kinds of stories from a young woman's POV Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved it. A totally new perspective on wartime stories.
