Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com This is an extremely self-serious dirge of a movie with a sharp performance from Guy Pearce, but no idea what to do with him or the decent ideas it has under its surface. Rated: 1.5/4 Jan 19, 2024 Full Review Smrithika Majukar Film Ireland Magazine An impressive accomplishment in style, form and ambition, Andrew Baird continues his streak of delivering high octane action with a Hollywood finish. Aug 7, 2024 Full Review Bradley Gibson Film Threat Pearce and Pettyfer both deliver powerhouse performances. Despite this being a lower-budget film, Guy Pearce chews the scenery with sound and fury equal to anything else he’s done. Rated: 8/10 Feb 21, 2024 Full Review Niall Browne Movies in Focus At the centre of Sunrise is a terse and truculent turn from Guy Pearce. Pearce has long been a reliable performer, and here he chews the scenery without ever veering into pantomime villain territory. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Kat Halstead Common Sense Media A dark, menacing atmosphere, gradual trickling of plot reveals, and wary, knife-edge performances from a strong cast make this a gritty, slow-burn thriller that will unsettle the soul. Jan 31, 2024 Full Review Natasha Alvar Cultured Vultures Sunrise has one good performance, and that's Guy Pearce as the villain. But that isn't enough to merit a watch, not when the film's pace is sluggish and the characters are barely developed. Rated: 4/10 Jan 27, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Jeffrey P I was liking this from the very start, and it didn’t really let up all throughout, but then it started doing flashbacks. While flashbacks usually do muddle things, I’m not sure I’d like this as much if the story is told in a more linear manner without flashbacks. The fact that I am not the biggest fan of vampire movies is even a greater testament to this anomaly being as likeable as it is. Very well done. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review Dan R 2024's 'Sunrise' is a low budget film with a unique and bloody spin on the vampire mythos. SYNOPSIS: 'A man, Fallon (Alex Pettyfer) roams the land as a creature of the night as he comes to terms with tragic loss of his family at the hands of a brutal demagogue, Reynolds (Guy Pearce).' 'Sunrise' has a dark and menacing atmosphere throughout but God it's slow going. If not going in reverse at times. It's the gritty performances from Pearce and Pettyfer that hold the film together, and apart from a interesting look into what a vampire actually is there's not a lot here. Very much a vampire film you can pass by. Bland at best. 3/10 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/27/24 Full Review Thomas A Took forever to get to the point and when it did the vampire was weak sauce. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/01/24 Full Review Thomas W 20 minutes bored out of my mind. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/27/24 Full Review nERDbOX D "Sunrise" aspires to be a slow-burning suspense thriller, but unfortunately, the meticulously built tension fails to ignite in a satisfying way. While the film boasts ok performances, the pacing and underwhelming climax leave you feeling like you sat through a long build-up with nothing to show for it. The film takes its sweet time revealing its secrets, and the suspense starts to wane with each passing scene. You find yourself yearning for some payoff, a jolt of horror, or even a significant plot development. Unfortunately, the payoff never quite arrives. The big reveal, when it finally comes, feels underwhelming and will leave you feeling frustrated and shortchanged. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/06/24 Full Review Julie F It's deliberately slow pace and meandering storytelling can be a bit much, but it's got enough about it to make it a cult classic. It's not a special effects laden gore fest, but Guy Pearce's character had all the horror you need. It's also beautiful to look at. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
