Garner is a marvel to watch, his quiet authority dominating every scene. But Willis also shows his best big-screen form yet. Go to Full Review

It's a plot that unravels on its own, without characters, without anything, not even a point of view. It's a zombie. Go to Full Review

One of the biggest flops of 1988, Blake Edwards' Sunset is highly uneven, but gorgeous period production values and the easy-going charm of Garner and Willis save it. Go to Full Review

Garner's a great Earp (see "Hour of the Gun") but this witless movie trashes not one but two great Western legends. Go to Full Review

Blu B May 13 Crap...I gotta explain why this sucked. The editing and pacing are truly terrible here. This is two movies. One is about Wyatt Earp & Bruce Willis (most Earp honestly) and them doing stuff. While the other is about this almost noir level complexity murder mystery plot they have to solve and the two never in the slightest come together. This becomes borderline incoherent throughout most of the runtime. You can't follow who did what and why this relationship matters with this and made them do that. It's so jumpy and SOOOOOOOOOOO boring. This feels like a 3 hour movie. Everything else isn't good. Which is a shame given this does a great job nailing the 1920's asetics and the direction isn't bad with some nice shots here and there. But Garner & Willis have no chemistry together, way too easygoing, and the humor in this is sooo lacking. I think this is trying to be funny every once in a while and my god it just not so much misses as it comes up to bat seldomly and never swings. The music is so boring and forgettable as well and poorly used. It doesn't even matter at the end of the day it's Wyatt Earp in this. It could be any regular person because them being two stars never really comes into play when solving the crime. So on top of the main gag never coming into play the fact it becomes so hard to follow is a major strike against the plot in general. Skip this. See more Steve D 03/02/2023 It has no idea what it wants to be and butchers Earp. See more 01/13/2020 It's uneven, but at times a lot of fun. Good performances by James Garner and Bruce Willis. See more 07/10/2016 I have thoroughly enjoyed this movie every time I have seen it! See more 05/18/2015 Sunset, for all intents and purposes, was not a hit film when it was released. A lot of this was due to how uneven the tone of the film is and what it's actually trying to do. Before I ever saw the movie, I just thought it was a straight-up comedy film about moviemaking. But when I saw it for the first time, it left me with the distinct impression that it wanted to do a lot of different things, and not just comedy. However, the charm of Bruce Willis and James Garner, along with the beautiful photography and set designs, make this one a winner for me. Willis and Garner seem to have a little chemistry between them as well. So the film isn't a total failure to me. I think it has a lot to offer and is probably worth a re-examination by modern audiences. After all, they see uneven movies constantly now. See more 04/25/2015 Bruce Willis plays Tom Mix, an early star actor of westerns, and James Garner plays Wyatt Earp, who is advising Mix in a movie about Wyatt Earp. They get involved in solving a real life Hollywood murder mystery. A great story about the merging and mixing of eras. Malcolm McDowell is the villain, and also with Muriel Hemingway.
